UP FLIPP - my HOME, my FAMILY…

 

Being the president of an organization is  a big challenge for someone who has never given a chance to lead way back in high school. Yes, believe it or not, I was never a chairperson of a subject club, nor the leader of patrols and troops in scouting. Somehow, the thought of being elected as the org’s head made me wonder at first, but as time passes by, that thought became an inspiration for me to give back the trust that they’ve given.

UP FLIPP stands for UP Future Library and Information Professionals of the Philippines. A young organization, we just turned 6 last August 16, 2008. And for the past six years, I’m very proud to say that we have contributed enough to the SLIS community.

The UPFLIPP exists to reach out the non-member students, to network them with other LIS students especially outside the Institute, to assist them to develop their academic performances and also to improve their other hidden talents and to uplift their future profession…

That was our purpose statement. UPLIFTING the Library and Information Science Course is our main goal. UPLIFTING our future profession. If not for UP FLIPP, I won’t be able to love LIS. UP FLIPP have taught me the value of LIS in our society.  Without UP FLIPP, I won’t able to appreciate its importance, I won’t able to love my current course.

And for that, I should reward that beloved organization of mine with service that it deserves from me. I am giving my all to UP FLIPP this academic year. One sem has passed and I’ll give everything next sem.

UP FLIPP is my second family. Although we have different personalities and cultural background, there is one thing that unites us. We all believe in our VMOPS. Every individual here is special to me. I’ve found my sisters, cousins, girlfriends, guy pals, gay friends, kuyas, ates, even a special someone, I’ve found it all here. UP FLIPP constitutes a lot of my college life.

As the current head of UP FLIPP, I’m also a witness of this org’s growth not only numerically but also in terms of experiences. This sem, we’ve gained 14 fresh FLIPPERS. I’m so excited!!!
